Introduction – Jeff Rotmeyer, Founder & CEO of ImpactHK

What it is

Kindness Walk is a volunteering experience where you go out on the streets and serve food and necessities to the homeless. These ‘Kindness Walks’ are where the ImpactHK journey began, offering a small act of kindness to someone who needs it. It is an impactful way for volunteers to learn about homelessness in Hong Kong, find out about ImpactHK and have the opportunity to give back.

You will start from one of the three ImpactHK centres in west Kowloon and we will kick off with a talk from our staff about homelessness in Hong Kong and the work of ImpactHK. During the Kindness Walk, you can expect to spend 1-2 hours out on the streets where we will serve the homeless, elderly and street cleaners who are in need. After the walk we will regroup at our centre and debrief.

Transformation

By the end of the Kindness Walk, participants will be able to:

  1. Get a better understanding for the living conditions and daily life for the homeless community in HK
  2. Meet and serve some of the homeless, street cleaners and elderly in the local community by giving out much-needed food, drink and other items
  3. Appreciate what is required to help the homeless in Hong Kong and support people to get off the streets and into housing
  4. Leave with your eyes opened to the homeless situation in Hong Kong and see our city in a different light

Benefits for your team and business

This is a unique opportunity to have your eyes opened to the homelessness situation in Hong Kong. You will serve the homeless community as a team and learn about the work of the charity from ImpactHK staff.

It is a chance to work together and bond with your colleagues while making a positive and tangible impact in the community. You will build up your understanding of Hong Kong and take a significant step forward with your wider philanthropic or charitable goals as an organisation.

What difference does it make?

In the past three years, ImpactHK has helped over 150 people into shelter and supported many more with employment opportunities. It has seen 30 people graduate from its programmes and progress to independent living, with eight of those people now working full time on our team.

We also serve over 3,000 meals a week - at its centres, and on Kindness Walks - to not only the homeless, but also elderly individuals and street cleaners who are in need.

Still deciding if this will be a good fit for your team?

Here is a podcast interview we did with Jeff Rotmeyer, Founder & CEO of Impact HK  “Solving Social Issues through Kindness” :

Testimonials

“It was a great volunteering experience - we all enjoyed being able to get hands-on and wished that we could have stayed on to do more. I personally had not been to anything similar before”

Sorraya Raccah, Head of CSR, Credit Suisse

“It only takes one smile to encourage everyone to keep helping. The Kindness Walks have sown a deeper understanding towards helping the homeless of Hong Kong. The experience has been meaningful to all of the students, teachers and parents who have joined the walk around Tai Kok Tsui. Knowing the story behind the people in need and hearing their struggles and challenges in surviving loneliness in the streets made it real for every single person who took the walk. It was an experience of connection, realization and ultimately a decision to take the step further, making lives a little better.”

Lady Imma de Guzman, Teacher, Hong Kong Academy
